Applications

Eco2Air® technology has been developed to be versatile, scalable, and adaptable to different application contexts.

The main available configurations – although not the only ones – are:

01

Full application (DAC + PYRO)

This configuration is ideal for contexts characterized by proximity to urban environments, while also benefiting from the availability of woody biomass in surrounding areas.

Europe, thanks to its rich biodiversity, represents an emblematic example of this mixed urban, rural and forest landscape.

In this configuration, plant performance can be balanced over time to achieve the optimal mix of outputs – such as CO₂, biochar, and activated carbon – modulated according to market demand.

PYRO technology supplies the energy required to operate the DAC module, ensuring optimal synergy between the processes.

Potential to develop large-scale CO2 capture facilities powered by abundant renewable energy

02

“DAC-only” application

This configuration is optimal in contexts where biomass is not available or where it is preferable to rely exclusively on DAC technology powered by renewable energy (such as photovoltaic systems).

It is particularly well suited to areas with high clean energy production, such as large solar farms currently being developed in the Middle East.

The CO₂ capture phase of the DAC process is characterized by high installation flexibility and can be implemented in several ways:

  1. Inside air treatment systems (Eco2Air® UTA)
  2.  In outdoor installations (Eco2Air® Tower)
  3. In high-capacity industrial plants (Eco2Air® Plant)

Installation on the rooftops of large buildings, particularly on Air Handling Units (AHUs) and HVAC systems, represents a highly scalable application.

Integrating Eco2Air® UTA filter modules into supply sections is straightforward in new buildings and can also be implemented in existing systems. The geometry of the filter module does not significantly affect HVAC airflow characteristics, resulting in virtually negligible pressure losses.

The Eco2Air® Tower is an iconic representation of the Eco2Air® concept, conceived as a technological and design “lung” for a more sustainable city. Standing 7 meters tall, it draws air from the top and releases it at the base, partially deprived of CO₂ creating a perceivable effect within a 15-meter radius and treating over 130 million cubic meters of air per year.

The Tower has already been installed in several locations (Milan Bicocca area, Brescia Expo area, Milan MIND area, Biella Cascina Oremo).

The Eco2Air® Plant is the industrial core of the solution. The plant is equipped with high-capacity capture systems (capable of removing thousands of tons per year), and also acts as a collection hub for all saturated filters used in distributed applications (UTAs + Towers).

All filters are processed to desorb the captured CO₂, which is the sent to storage, either for permanent sequestration or for use in virtuous supply chains.

Eco2Air® Plant is designed to operate 24/7, with optimized logistics flows, production processes, quality control systems, and laboratory activities.

Location: close to urban areas

03

“PYRO-only” application

In contexts with abundant biomass availability but located far from urban centers, the PYRO-only configuration can be adopted.

In this scenario, PYRO technology enables the production of biochar, activated carbon, and carbon credits, while also generating large amounts of energy in various forms.

This creates additional revenue streams, increasing the overall economic sustainability of the plant.

Location: close to forests

Project scalability

The Eco2Air® project represents a scalable and adaptable model, capable of meeting varied capture needs over time.

The development of the technology and its applications is following a phased approach: starting in 2022, it will reach its full potential from 2027 onward.
